THOSE who thought Sylvester Stallone was left with only inconsequential roles in ‘Bollywood biggies’, this one is in response to it! Co—written and directed by the action legend himself; The Expendables is none less than a treat for Sly`s die—hard fans. One look at the movie poster and that is the rest of the story! With an ensemble cast starting from Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews to Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Amold Schwarzenneger; The Expendables is a mega budget action movie that is sure to set the box office on fire. The Expendables are hired to kill and spare not one soul. They are fearless, brave and do not mind shedding their blood while on their war mission. One after the other, they are sent on several such missions, in return of a huge salary that four of them have an equal share in. Stallone, the leader realizes that they are a part of the special US services and are hired by the CIA. His responsibility has now increased manifold.

Mr. Church the top CIA agent offers The Expendables an astronomical sum of money in exchange of a dangerous job that nobody else would dare take up. They are sent to Vilena, a small country in South America that is terrorized by James Monroe, an Ex-CIA agent now expelled for betraying the agency. He`s now into drug dealing, smuggling, weapon dealing and all dark activities, hand-in-glove with General Graza, the ruthless dictator of Vilena.

The Expendables end up extracting a few more skeletons in Vilena’s closet on their arrival in the sleepy country. How they tackle with the dark secrets in the most predictable way is the rest of the movie all about. Packed with a solid star cast, the movie rides on Stallone’s and Staham’s able shoulders. Barring martial arts expert Jet Li, boxing star Randy Couture and football champ Terry Crews, the rest of the cast disappoints. ‘Arnie’ in a blink-and-you miss-it role is just not in place. Same goes for Bruce Willis who did not have much meat in his role as Mr. Church. Brig Roberts shines in his grey role.

The film in the first half, takes its own sweet time develop upon the storyline, but picks up pace post interval. The story moves at triple speed in the second half and leaves you breathless for most of its running time. The action sequences are over the top and keep the adrenaline pumping all the time. With a few predictable plots and some glitches, the film still scores in its action and cast department. All said and done, The Expendables is a full on paisa vasool for those who are an action-crazy lot!
